To find your house on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)
-
Go to www.fema.gov.
-
In the "How Do I Find" box, choose "Maps"
-
When you get there, click on "Map Service Center."
-
On the MSC page, choose "Map Search" on the top nav-bar.
The next page may take a while to load. It will be a zoomed-out map with some buttons on the left.
-
Above the map there's an Item #2. Type in your address in and hit "Go."
You may get a pop-up box that asks you to select your street from a short list of possible street names. The next screen will tell you which map panel your property is on and offer to sell it to you. At the end of the line there is a small magnifying glass, for View. There is no charge to view the map and print a portion of it.
(Behind the screen you are looking at is another screen that shows you a yellow map with the approximate location of your house indicated with a red dot.)
-
Click on the magnifying glass to see the flood map (FIRM) that your house is on. You can zoom in and out, and make a FIRMette.
-
A Firmette combines into a single image the portion of the map you selected and the map-panel identifying information. It is produced as either a TIFF image or portable document file (PDF) and can be as small as a regular sheet of paper. This is your piece of the official flood map.
